Stephen P. Clark sent the list this on Thu, Apr 5, 2001 at 2:12 PM:
Does the new 1280 exhibit the same problems with profiling / ink
appearance
under various illumination sources as the earlier 1270?
Anyone know of sources for new 1200's that might still need a new home?
<email@hidden>
The truly disturbing complaint against the 1270 was NOT the
ozone-induced color shift, which was never a universal complaint
(seemed to depend on the printer's global position) and in any case
may have been ameliorated by Epson's newer versions of glossy papers.
The truly disturbing complaint against the 1270 also was NOT
metamerism, although this remains one of the main complaints against
the 2000P, especially with the glossier papers (even the new ones).
The truly disturbing complaint against the 1270 WAS, and continues to
be, that inks take a very long time, perhaps several days or more, to
achieve stable color rendition, ie to STOP shifting (this does not,
however, imply that the inks aren't dry to the touch, which is
irrelevant here). This situation is unacceptable to anyone who cares
about colors, like the current audience.
The 1280 should behave identically in this regard.
This is why the 1270/1280 are the the ONLY printers listed on Jon
Cone's web site for which profiles are NOT available. See for
yourself:

If anyone has an update to this issue, I for one would be most interested.
