Two of us used Optical to create a custom profile of our monitors
in Mac OS 9.1. When you drag that profile into Mac OS X
one gets a problem where any text field becomes black.
...
Creating a new user eliminated the problem for the new
user.
...
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ColorSyncDeviceList.localhost.plist
All you have to do is trash this file, then log out and back in!
That works because you're no longer using the Optical profile. Creating
a new user creates a new display profile for that user upon login.
Tossing the ColorSyncDeviceList prefs file also forces a new display
profile to be created upon login.
Each user has their own display profile (and corresponding LUT loaded
into the video card). For instance, you can login as User A to create a
6500 2.2 gamma profile, then logout and login as User B to create a 9300
1.8 gamma profile. When each user logs in, the display's profile is set
to the user's last selected profile, the profile's LUT gets loaded, and
the display's apparent white point and gamma changes accordingly.
The simplest way to change the video card LUT is to select a different
profile in the Displays preferences Color tab.
