Neil/Jon...
Thanks for your replies. Let me see if I understand what both of you are
saying:
1. The actually CCD chip sees a huge color space, much bigger than the
scanner profile... in my case the FlexTight Precision profile provided by
Imacon. Therefore, when the scanner converts what the CCD sees to the
scanner profile, it's moving from a huge space to a somewhat smaller space,
and that's best done with perceptual intent (which the FlexTight profile
provides).
2. Once the CCD data is converted to the scanner profile, it then has to be
converted to a working space profile for editing in PhotoShop. If converted
to Ekta Space, it's being moved into a larger color space where there is
enough "room" that there's no need to be mushing the color values around.
The conversion should be ideally relative colormetric so as to simply port
the color values over unchanged.
3. Current profiles don't allow a relative colormetric conversion from
scanner space to Ekta Space.
4. PS 6 allows LUT profiles to serve as working spaces, and that opens up
possibilities for new working space profiles that Joe Holmes and you (Jon)
have developed.
Am I getting this?
I do have a question about #3. What if I set the rendering intent in
Conversion Options section of the Color Settings dialog box to relative
colormetric. Wouldn't this insure that the FlexTight profile is converted to
the Ekta Space profile with the, apparently preferred, relative colormetric
intent?
I'm sure I'm missing something here.
Thanks for your comments,
Doug
