Gretag Macbeth is making their first foray into midlevel color management
with a device line called the EyeOne, and it looks like a well designed
product line. The lowest cost version is a monitor calibrator (no patch
reading capabilities) with monitor software for $600. It appears to do a good
job, though I haven't driven it myself, only watched. The product to beat in
that market is not Monaco, or even ColorBlind's ProveIt, but ColorVision's
Monitor Spyder and PhotoCal software which offer advanced monitor profiling
with RGB gun precalibration at a third the EyeOne's price. But until
ColorVision offers a version optimized for LCD displays, those entrepid (or
some would say foolish) souls bent on doing color critical work on LCDs will
find the EyeOne the lowest cost package on the market claiming to be
optimized for LCD calibration.
