I'm no
color expert, but I think it has to do with the white point shifting because
all of a sudden we cannot have a pure white (0000 CMYK, or 255255255 RGB),
it is "out of Gamut". It converts to 1,1,1,0 and 254,254,254 respectively.
I think Jan-Peter Homann is the one to ask here. If I got it right,
it actually isn't defined in the Spec.
Overall you need to use the open CMMs, either the Apple CMM or the
Heidelberg CMM.
The Kodak and Agfa CMMs rely on proprietary features that give Kodak
and Agfa profiles an advantage, so to speak. Or you could say that
the idea is that with these CMMs, it is supposed to make a difference
which profile building application you and everybody else in your
workflow have.
IMO this goes against the grain of open systems ICC color management.
Now I read somewhere
that you can edit a CMM in like a text editor and "tweak it", but I don't
think I really want to do that.
I know a couple of folks who build CMMs, and I know they are a good
deal smarter than I. Tweaking a CMM is like taking the helm on a
space flight. There are things best left to the control room down on
the ground.
