The black ink of an ink jet is radically different the process black ink on
press. Some profiling products mentioned allow hue adjusted black to correct
for this if you build a device link profile. You can calibrate to press
densities if you wish or maximize the color gamut of the ink jet. I usually
suggest maximizing the ink jet color gamut but some of customers desire the
former.

Well if the screen or print output does not meet *your* color tolerances.
Most of time I find that process control is the problem and that profile
editing is rarely needed except in special circumstances.

You could but that's not the easiest approach. Think about creating device
link profiles for each production (target) device after you have profiled
each target device.
