I did not realise that the software actually modified the performance of the
monitor in a physical way. I had thought that it was simply a mathematical
transformation of data sent to it by programs or contained in the look up
tables. Now I know.
the magenta-green banding issue is more bothersome and you said it was a
badly set-up screen. Is it a magnetic field problem? I actually have the
monitor as a second monitor running off a G4 titanium powerbook which is
right next to it. i'll try moving it around to see if it is an interference
problem. i would have thought it was shielded.
Or is the set-up issue related to calibration?
It is interesting to get going in this digital darkroom, and it really makes
me appreciate how well designed the 'old' tools are. The c-print is a very
consistent standard, easy to maintain and does a good job of representing
real world colors in a natural way. Plus, our eyes are more calibrated to
it that this new inkjet world. My ideas of color are changing daily and I
find myself looking at every printed piece that comes through my mailbox to
see how they do it.
thanks for the info, robert
