Thanks to the people at Praxisoft I've had a chance to try their new Mac
1 Rip.
This is the most intuitive rip interface I've seen yet. Our operators
have voted hands down it's the favorite over Postershop and Wasatch.
I mean no offense to the people at Onyx but Postershop is a very "over
complicated" interface to achieve what it does.
We're not new to ripping. I started in the CEPS biz before postscript
was a product anybody could use. I went through the early incarnations
of Lino rips, Scitex VIP's, Agfa rips, Fiery's and just about every
other rip that is used in a prepress department.
We currently are Rampage and Scitex based for our high end prepress.
We are new to the large format business and were dismayed at what we
saw. Some may remember my post asking for a comparison of Postershop and
Wastch as we were making our decision. We weren't able to consider Mach
1 at that time because of the change Praxi was going through.
Our operators haven't even taking the manual out of the box yet. After a
two hour training session they can output with the rip.
For me as a business owner this is dollars and cents issue. I have
watched wasted square foot after wasted square foot go in the trash as
the non-intuitive interface of Postershop has confounded our staff.
Knowing that our operators can get a file out of a large format device
quickly and without reruns is what I need.
I'm not trying to act as a salesman for Praxi, let them do their own
work. I'd be interested in anybody elses opionion of this interface
relative to ease of use.
I'd also be interested in anybody's experience with Onyx to see if it
mirrors my own.
When we found out that we had to buy an extra module to "collage" a job
in Postershop I felt a little gouged. My operators are telling me that
in this Mach 1 they can just gang them up on a format and print. No
upgrade needed.
We've only had Mach 1 for a couple of days. Once we finish the color
calibration it looks a lot like good bye and good riddance Onyx.
Anybody interested in a copy of Onyx Postershop 5.5 Server with the
Collage option?
After testing Postershop, Wasatch and Mach 1 I'd rate them as:
1. Mach 1
2. Wasatch
3. Postershop
Onyx take note, I am not a happy camper.
