The question is: should I use the Optical Startup extension or not?
As with ProveIt! there is a start up script to verify that the vcgt is
indeed the loaded from the profile, and the same as the display or system
profile. It was more of a problem with older versions of Colorsync that did
allowed loading of profiles without a vcgt tag thus changing the profile
without bumping the lut in the video card. It's not needed as long as you
are VERY careful not to bump out your profile to some old profile then try
to reload yours again possibly swapping the vcgt. For me it's easy to see
both monitors are calibrated and any slight difference screams foul
immediately.
What might be interesting to others is , when looking at the gamut of your
monitors and my ageing monitors we see very large drops of color gamut over
the years. Would anyone care to take a stab at the longevity of the Apple
22" cinema display?
