Custom Profiles and BestColor DE

Has anyone gotten truly good results making custom paper profiles
created using Best's baseline files? I have created a custom profile
with ColorBlind Matchbox Profiler+ based on a linearization supplied by
Best. I am trying to simulate a PolarProof with a Canon 8500 through the
Best DE rip. The resulting simulation is pretty close...though not close
enough. A bit heavy on the magenta. My problem arises when I try to
tweak the profile in CB Edit. The results have been mixed and confusing
as the custom paper profile, as used by DE, is not what I am accustom to
think of as a destination profile. Editing the profile in CB Edit as an
output profile has led to some odd results. It has been difficult to
determine if the oddities are due to the rip or Edit. Will I get better
results trying to instead customize a new linearization with the
infamous Ink Assistant or continue struggling with Edit's
idiosyncrasy's? Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve Demetriou
