I thought MFT2 tag just mapped [255 255 255] (or [0 0 0]) to [L=255, a=128,
b=128] for relative rendering intents. And all the other colors mapped to
PCS values that correspond to what they would look like if the illuminant
was the same color as the paper (assuming that was how the measurement data
was reduced when the profile was made).
The ICC spec just says that the MediaWhitePoint tag is used in generating
absolute colorimetry.
