Currently I am using Scanvec-Amiable's Color Profiler package, an
option to their PhotoPrintServer (v2.6.1) RIP software, to create
profiles for the Roland Cammjet CJ500 and HiFiJet FJ500.
A few issues arise on a constant basis:
There is no documentation provided with the Color Profiler app.
All Profiles created and Linearization and Characterization Profiles
have scum dots: C=1, M=1, Y=1, K=0 (scum dots don't print when used)
All Profiles created as Characterization-Only profiles (linearization
at the RIP) have scum dots: C=1, M=1, Y=1, K=0 (scum dots do print
when used)
RGBRed is difficult to target due to the Toyo inkset but regardless
of that it and RGBGreen and RGBBlue are difficult to target due in
part to I have no idea what their color mapping scheme is supposed to
be. Any clues?
Color mapping CMYRGB from Source Lab>destination CMYKOGLcLm by eye on
a cheap but calibrated PC monitor renders better results than any
defaults ColorProfiler is allowed to make on its own.
From the looks of things, the app renders source Lab from an internal
table then maps CMY (from ink limit table?) and RGB (from RGB
phosphors setup?) to destination (measured data?) CMYKOGLcLm or
CMYKOG all the while very seldom using anything but CMY (very seldom
K). Adding the additional inks manually to the mix as part of the
Colormapping-by-eye process improves the performance of the profiles
just enough to stay ahead of our $5000US garbage bin.
Questions (requests?):
1. Does anybody out there have this ColorProfiler package?
2. Have you ever written anything but a barely passable profile?
3. If so, would you email it to me for comparison?
4. Have you ever affected the white point post-creation? If so, how?
In summation, I'm very curious to hear results from the HP 10s and
it's ScanAm RIP. If anyone has a profile from that puppy I'd like
play with him too.
TIA
