Went through 3 different workflows with Adobe Photoshop and had questions
for David Tobie, Jeff, and the other resources of the list...
First used image in Adobe 1998 (Working Space in Pshop6), and then performed
a Convert to Profile (Epson 5500 Premium Luster P.P.) using Relative intent
and the ACE CMM. Should theoretically be in the Printer Space at this point.
Then printed using Source Space = Epson 5500 Premium Luster P.P. and Printer
Space set to Same as Source. Verified the Epson Mac driver was set to "No
Color Management" and the Paper selected was indeed Premium Luster.
When reviewing the print - the Composite (RGB) grey ramp next to the photo
went to honey yellow and the image had an overall yellow cast. The pure
black (such a thing in RGB?) was not as affected. Ahhh...disappointing. By
the way image did not appear yellow on-screen (Monitor calibrated right
before editing.)
Then printed the original Adobe 1998 through the Photoshop Print Dialog box
and selected Source Space (Adobe 1998), printer space (Epson 5500 Premium
Luster P.P.), chose Relative intent and turned off Epson Printer Color
Management. This one printed fine - grey ramp stayed neutral, skin tones
looked good, colors were very close to original material although the
overall image was a lot darker than the on-screen preview (Cmd-Y) <Proof
Setup for Epson Premium Luster and Relative intent.>
Last, we printed using Colorsync settings and to make a long story short, it
looked identical to the above process (that is good! Even though we used the
Heidelberg CMM as ACE is not available as system CMM...)
Question:
Many believe the first scenario Convert to Profile is a good thing to do
(soft-proof). So what happened with the color? In theory, we are just
looking at the interim process of the color conversion to printer space and
then releasing the document to print. I have to believe we did something
wrong, but triple checked the settings in Photoshop Print dialog and the
Epson advanced settings...
Any clues? Thank you all - I respect the knowledge of the list...
