Hi group,
learning more and more every day but now I think I have
a strategic collaps on over-editing profiles.
I am trying to dig into the colormanagement system on
my qms magicolor 330 with profile optimization. But I seem
to have some kind of misunderstanding in my edit-flow.
Here's what I do ...
a) I disable all colormanagement options
b) I do a linearization with a software called colorencore.
This brings the densities to a defined point (each slightly
below the original densities) and does a linearization to
all channels.
c) I print a printopen chart
d) I download the printers profile to the printer and enable
colormanagement. My matchprint is selected as simulation
profile. I print the testimage and compare it to my real
matchprint proof.
The match is ok .. not too good though.
The problem I see now is that when I set up CB Edit to
simulate the colormanagement on the printer (source=matchprint,
destination=printerprofile) the softproof doesn't match what
I really get from the printer.
Usually I'd expect the softproof to show the print to then tune
the image visually to match the matchprint I have more closely
and then save a new destination profile with the edits I made.
Since I don't see what I get all I can do is guess what I have to do
in Edit to improve the proofing quality of the printer.
This made me think of another (somewhat weired) approach ...
a) I disable all colormanagement options
b) I do a linearization with a software called colorencore.
This brings the densities to a defined point (each slightly
below the original densities) and does a linearization to
all channels.
c) I print a printopen chart and a cmyk testimage that reflects
the linearized printer with no colormanagement.
d) I make a profile of that chart and open the image I printed
in Colorblind Edit. This profile I select as source for the image.
Simulation and destination profile are set to "none" and
the correct monitor profile is slected.
I now compare the printed cmyk testimage to the softproof on
the monitor and see they don't match. I edit the image
with CB Edit and save a new profile with the edits included.
So I edited the output tables of the printerprofile so that
the softproof matches the unprofiled output.
Does this make sense as a first step to verify this profile alone ???
e) The edited profile from d) I now download to the printer
in a manner that it takes place of the internal profile.
f) I now enable Colormanagement and select our matchprint
profile as Source (Simulation) profile.
==> In Edit setting the source to matchprint and the destination
to the edited qms profile looks weired. Plus the colormanaged
print doesn't look good either somewhat like the simulation in
Edit.
The matchprint profile has been working for us and does its
daily good job in our workflow. So I'd suggest this profile to be good.
I'd appreciate someone telling me whats going on here.
Thanks,
Daniel
