I redid my initial testing, and I think Bill is right, that it is just
calling it something without really doing the conversion.
I scanned a slide with CMS on and off as a Photoshop plugin and with it off
as a stand alone. With CMS on, the image is, of course, vastly different
than the other two. The two with CMS off appear the same, and respond to the
scanner profile in the same way. Readings with the Photoshop color sampling
tool were virtually identical.
I'll scan some other slides both ways in the morning and double check it.
