Monitor profile rendering intents

I have been using ProfileCity's Profile Manager and I find it a
very useful tool. However one thing that puzzles me is that all
the monitor profiles report back as having a... 'Default
Rendering Intent' of 'Perceptual'.

Surely a perceptual rendering intent would imply the
possibility of monitor colors being scaled from there
colormetrically correct place. I had always thought that the
rendering intent of a monitor profile would have been relative
colormetric.

Obviously I am missing something here.
Can anyone on this list shed some light on my confusion?
