Instead of being concerned about specific RGB values, I suggest that you set
up your DC target, crop to the target including all the gray patches around
the edge and bracket the exposures in half stop increments, say 2 exposures
each side of "NORMAL", and then take a look at each image in PS> Levels.
I would select the final target image for running through PM3.1 that has the
best histogram. (meaning the one that has the most data contained between the
highight and shadow)
If the Better Light software allows you to capture in linear mode then try
that
also.
