Actually, Illustrator 9 is the first upgrade to offer color managed
hand-off of any kind. This is done using the ICCBased color
specification in PDF 1.3 and 1.4.
Illustrator 9 still saves out color blind EPS, however. As the
InDesign on-line guide explains, EPS from Illustrator 9 can't be
color managed. That is, Illustrator EPS and PostScript still use the
device color specification.
