Joeseph,
By your description your monitor is suffering from either a purity problem
caused by external magnetic factors or a defective CRT. OR the problem is
Luminace uniformity which can't be compensated for on a Pressview.
If the problem is environment moving the monitor to a different location or
simply rotating the monitor its horizontal axis should make the
discoloration move about the screen. The discoloration is caused by what
monitor manufacturers call spot mislanding. For various reasons (stray
localized magnetic interference either in the environment or on the
aperature grill defelct the electrons being fired to the phosphors to land
on an unintended color ie. the electrons from the green gun strike the red
phosphors. This causes a purity problem on neutral color like a gray
background). If the problem is caused by magnetic interference then moving
the monitor, adjusting the purity controls or external degausing
(demagentising with a special degausing ring or wand) will fix the problem.
This problem can also be mechanical if the electron gun was inadvetently
misaligned when the CRT was sealed, if this is the case the unit will need
to be replaced as there is no "fix" for this problem. Likewise if the dark
spot is purely related to Luminace (dark with no discoloration) caused by a
defect in the phosphor coating the CRT and therfore the monitor will need to
be replaced.
This problem is no so much a problem as inherent in the technology. All
monitors display this condition to one extent or another and it mostly goes
unnoticed in other applications. In graphic applications it is the monitor
achielle's heel. BARCO Ref Cal V's have the most electronic control to
overcome this problem but even all the BARCO magic wont' fix bad glass.
WIth a little luck changing location will fix you up. Otherwise strap on
your gear to do battle with the warranty gods ;)

"We know color from A to Z"
Hello Folks,
I am looking for some feedback regarding my monitor.
I have a Radius PressView that is about one year old. Its display is
inconsistent. One side is more red than the other side. This isn't much of
a problem for dark colors but when I have a uniform field of very light
colors such as a white (3 2 2 0) its a big deal. As far as I can tell
there isn't anything exterior to the monitor that can be causing this.
So is this a fixable problem? Is this normal? Will third party profiling
options help fix this?
Thank you,
Joseph Wilhelm
