I'm just fine tuning BestColor DE tonight. I'm trying to see if I could from
the clients point of view use the proofs as contract proofs.
The answer is yes. I can't get the sharpness out of the Epson 1200 that an
imagesetter does at 2400 but the similarity between the press tear sheets
and the Epson proofs are outstanding. I would never had thought this
possible of a cheap inkjet producing or mimicking a press so closely.
I've proofed sheet fed and web press pages on different (press) stock on
Epson 190g/M2 PhotoPaper. Reference profile a saved out Eurocaoted V2, from
PS 6. I've used different seperation settings and the subtle changes show
quite well in the proofs. The US web coated V2 should simulate the average
web stock over there with an ugly but true paper white.
The better way is to buy the Tecco/Best proofing paper not only for the
better matching characteristics, but also sizes available. If you proof to
the A4+ Best paper you'll have room for comments and the printers wedges.
Set up is simple and more or less like other RIP's for inkjets. There are
some things that could be improved in the user's interface but it will out
of the box get you great proofs with their stock profiles.
The eye-opener is when after fighting for control in Adobe PressReady for
months is to get a sure proof even out of the box.
What else would you like to know?
