I have IT8s for reflective, transparency and 35mm media. It occurred
to me that for a flatbed scanner it may not make sense to build
profiles using the 35mm IT8. Would I get the same (or better)
results profiling with the transparency IT8 and using that profile
after scannning whether or not the scanned media is 35mm or
transparency?
In other words, is there enough difference in the media to warrant
profiling them separately? I haven't had a chance to do a test yet,
but was wondering what others thought.
A simple way to test this is to compare the data files for the two
film types. (for the two IT8's)
Open them both in your copy of ColorThink, drag them both to the 3D
Grapher, check vector compare and see how they differ in 3D.
It should give you a pretty good idea of the error you would see in
using one profile for the other - assuming your data files are
accurate of course!
