The profiling system is intended for making your scan look as close as
possible to the original. The expectation is that the original being
scanned has normal exposure and processing, and that you like what you see
in the original under controlled lighting. IT8 targets are available in
various emulsions, media, and sizes because these factors all affect color
appearance of the original and, in an offhand way, how the scanner sees
them. It depends on your perspective, but we find gigantic differences
between even 35mm, 2-1/4 and 4 x 5 transparencies of the same emulsion.
