3.0.2 was a hardware specific release, mainly it was for multiprocessor
support on those new machines.

Does that mean that ColorSync will use the other processor to speed up
stuff, or was it just a bug fix for compatibility release?

Bug fix. It was a minor glitch with Explorer only on MP machines. MP processing speed and behavior in 3.0.2 is the same as in 3.0.1.
