Subject: total ink limit

Since I only output to inkjet printers Epson 9000 and Roland Hi-Fi Jet and I
driver them both with best color and do a base linearzation and ink limit
before I output my patches in PrintOpen 3.1x I assume I would set my black
and total ink to 400% 100% black. Does this sound correct?

I have no idea either but I'll take a stab at suggesting that you are
dealing with a 6 color printer, one that you are sending RGB data to (I
think) and it's then doing it's proprietary CcMmYk conversion. And even if
you're sending it CMYK data via a RIP, you've still got 2 extra inks to take
into account. Could it be that the extra inks and the mixing of said inks is
causing this discrepancy?

Stand back Andrew whilst I draw the mighty CM2s from my gown and stab

The canned profiles for Rolands have yet to assemble an ink limit
exceeding 240. The Epson...well who knows?. I might suggest that the
printers have a 240 ink limit (or less overall) is not a perceived
reality, but in fact a relative one. The new canned profiles for the
Roland have few at 240. Many are less than 200 and their photograde
calibration flagship is running as low as 120. Which is a curious
thing. When I print my ink density swatch (matte canvas) I can easily
push to 280 without any visual difference from 240, except when I
measure the actual density steps themselves. I've been backing up to
240 from 280 now for the last two weeks and wondering if I'm doing
this right.
