Bob, I too am a user of ColorSynergy and I have to say I have not witness
the kind of low quality you describe, relative to CompassProfile's profile,
which I have not had the chance to see, on an Epson 1270. A while ago, I
posted on this list comparative results on PressReady vs Epsons's own
quickdraw-based driver 3000 on the Mac. Clearly, between the two, in terms
of sheer color gamut, Epson's own driver was superior and still is in my
mind (CDTobie might think otherwise in terms of gradation, however).
But, to come back to your point, I am a bit suprised at the results you say
you are getting with ColorSynergy on your Epson. Case in point. I was just
proofing RGB scans yesterday for a client, on my SC3000 using Epson's own
glossy paper. I was converting through CandelaCCT plug-in, in Photoshop 6,
from ColorMatch RGB (as my RGB working space) to my SC3000
Linear/Colorimetric, in RGB and, boy, did it ever match my
calibrated-DiamondPro900u-with-Optical/DTP92 screen, all under a 5000K booth
right next to my monitor! I have yet to do the same exercise using D65 on my
monitor but that's another story altogether.
Hope this helps.

A 0/0/0 patch separates to something like 220 total ink... very close to the
