That was one of the reasons I acquired a ColorCheckerDC; to test not only
digital camera profiling, but scanner profiling as well. It certainly works
fine on a flatbed, either as a test file with known values to check
extrapolation of IT8 based profiles, or as a special target for building
scanner profiles.
