Clicking the Black Point Compensation checkbox in the Edit >
Preferences > General > Color Management window correctly matches the
image blacks to the deepest black of the printed page, but the soft
proof does not show the current state of the checkbox. The print
does, however -:).
IMO PDF 1.3 is a great container format, and the free viewer is
great, too, but the very transparency of the format, the ability to
look straight into what's there, is also deceptive, if the color
transforms misbehave. PDF 1.3 workflows need to be backed by hardcopy
proof prints from by an ICC color server of some kind.
I used to think of the monitor as the centre of all this, but the
more complex things get, the more appeal does the traditional idea of
starting all color discussions with a proof print have. Not all old
ideas are bad ideas. Not all new ideas are good, either -:).
