Personally I use mostly perceptual rendering, because it brings more
pleasing skintones and more shadow-detail.
And then there is coming the day when your pictures are converted in
a color-server (or in-RIP in press), all with the same intent. And in
this kind of working enviroment it will be perceptual.
Exactly ! -:).
The hunt for great color should be in the step from scanner RGB into
RGB working space / Lab. The step from RGB working space to Lab
should default to a safe conversion.
In a late binding workflow where the CMYK output profile is chosen on
the fly, the aim has to be to create a digital original that will
separate well to large gamut offset, using default safe separation
methods.
If the word is that RelCol / RelCol + BPC is fine, then the same CMYK
offset profile will not behave as well, when a customer or printer
hits the convert button.
There has to be a gatekeeper intent, a default production intent that
is known not to cause serious problems. Then a workgroup (print
house, photographers, graphic designers) can settle on a production
profile, and get the same results.
