I have never seen fluorescent colors in a photographic process print,
however, there certainly are fluorescent inks and the brighteners used in
paper manufacture also may flouresce. One cannot "produce" flourescent
colors by mixing non flourescent inks.
Flourescence is the absorption of light of one wavelength (often UV) and the
emmission of a different wavelength (almost always longer - blue from UV).
In other words, the color of the light is shifted.
The ColorSync process, if used properly, will account for the flourescence.
The problem usually encountered is that the lamp in the spectophotometer has
a much smaller proportion of UV than does the light the art will be viewed
under. As a result, the flourescence is either not triggered, or is much
less than actually observed. The result of this is that the color it reads,
while correct for its light, is wrong for the viewing light.
Since the color actually seen is not a known function of the measuring and
observing light colors and the sample color, no mathematical conversion can
be done to correct for this and the profile generated from this data is
wrong for the viewing light.
