"ICC Lab" means the ICC specified encoding of CIELAB. This particular
encoding cannot represent any colors whose a* or b* components are either
less than -128 or greater than +127. There are colors visible to the eye
which are excluded by this encoding.
I have written a one-page tutorial which discusses this in more detail, for
