How effective are spectrophometers at measuring real objects for
later use in adjusting scans of color-critical items?
I use a ColorSavvy ColorMouse (CM2s) spectro for real object
measurement and then compare the numbers Lab, RGB, CMYK and profile
CMYK on the MAC using CS ColorMouse Color Picker. Works pretty good,
except there is always a certain amount of confusion comparing
CIE-based Lab versus ICC-based Lab numbers (which is why we usually
settle on working with CMYK number comparisons based on colorimeter
measurements).
The problem with a spot reading though is it is often too exacting
when measuring mixed colors. It would be nice to have a variable
aperture spectro for rendering perceptual readings.
