there is a misunderstanding here, we were discussing the issue of
scanner [input] profiles on the colorsync users forum [your
title: Re: no use for scanner profile] - were we not?
I was trying to help you out with some pointers away from the
"new" and "old" ways of working with input profiles. If you found
my reply condescending then I certainly apologise.
After reading the rest of this mail I think I was wasting my time.
However, I will take the time to answer this one fully.
Please remember that
1
I am writing from the UK here and we have a different "turn of
phrase" which can be misunderstood [apparently].
2
with a very busy business to run I don't have time for the
little trimmings which would make a letter more "polite than an
email"
you will find many mails here with usages which might seem a
little curt in a letter to an aunt, but are apparently acceptable
in a technical discussion forum.

OK, that's your perogative.

actually I didn't / don't expect to gain anything from my mails,
what I do gain from my subscription to colorsync-users is the
pleasure of being able to read the responses of my peers to the
problems of others. I do feel it's my duty, though, to
contribute to a list which gives me, personally, so much - So,
when a question I understand pops up I will try to compose a
reasoned reply. As with your query.

thanks, my personality!!

at best?
not at all helpful then
did you write your original [no use for
scanner profile] mail to get something out of your system or
were you looking for help / answers?

me too, I thought you wanted information, that's why I spent
quite some considerable time trying to put you on the right track with input
profiles. Sorry you've got it all distorted and apparently got the bit
between your teeth now you think I've insulted you. I have not
insulted you.
I certainly wish I had not bothered to answer YET ANOTHER mail
about why scanner input profiles are useless.

you are certainly mistaken about me Paul.

me neither, is that what you think I am doing? playing childish games??
Can you quote a particular phrase or usage from my reply to you
in which this is evidenced?

I don't think so pal - there are EXTREMELY clever people on this
list and I am certainly not one of them. I was merely [and
apparently unsuccessfully] trying to present you with a reasoned
argument to try the colour management features of the Imacon
scanner.

yep, too bad.
So you understand waht apparently happened with your mail:
What happens with mail from colorsync users is that a reply to a
post I make will often be sent back via the list AND directly to
me as the poster, since that is what happens when one presses the
default reply button. In the case of a discussion which is moved
"OFF LIST" it is customary to write "OFF LIST" at the top, [and
even perhaps to alter the thread title] so that the reciever
knows the sender is moving the discussion OFF LIST. I didn't see
that on your post and I presumed we were still on list.

You continued to argue your point even after I agreed with you.
I didn't think you'd come over - quite, I was trying to help Paul.
Do you now appreciate that an input profile can be incredibly
helpful and have you tried it on your Imacon? If you have gret
I've managed to pass on a bit of knowledge to a fellow user in
need. if not forget it.

I wouldn't say that.
