I know Gretag's Eye-One Monitor package does not require multiple licenses.
The device *is* the license, the software is "free" so to speak.
In the case of Photocal/Optical, I understand you need to have a license for
each workstation. This at first made no sense to me since if I purchased
Optical with a single Monitor Spyder, I presumably could not "use" more than
one copy at a time with the device. But since A) the device is not the
dongle/license and B) Photo/Optical can support multiple devices, their
"license per workstation" policy makes sense. Obviously when you get to more
than 3-4 workstations, Optical becomes quite a bit more expensive than
Eye-One Monitor.
Personally, I'm hoping for Eye-One support in Optical in the future,
essentially marrying Gretag's superior device with Optical's more
feature-rich software. I'm probably "wishing in the wind" but I can always
hope!
