This is simply not true. If there are no controls over the actual gun
voltages then you are simply compressing the Video Card LUT's and clipping
the available dynamic range. Their are a lot of clever monitor profiling
schemes which can give acceptable results, But there is still no substitute
for properly calibrating your monitor by adjusting guns for proper light
output level and color temp prior to profiling it. If your monitor guns are
set to display a D9300 White point and you want to simulate D 5000 a much
redder light and you have no gun control then you the reddest red is the red
gun turned on to R-255 balanced for D 9300. You can't make more red light by
adjusting the Video Card higher then 255 so you must clip green and blue to
get the redder white light, taking away blue and green yield less available
total light output 85cd/m2 at 9300K becomes about 70cd/m2 at D5000. You have
to compromise light output and dynamic range in favor of color of light. Its
is a physical law you can't get something for nothing.
You can control color form the video card but its not free
