There are two types of dye inks and one type of pigmented inks. On the Dye
side there is the older standard dye and then the newer Photographic dye.
The printers like the 5000, 7000, and 9000 all user older dye formulations.
The new 10000 and the 1280 for example use the Photo dye formulation which
lasts much longer. The pigmented inks go in the 5500, 7500, 9500, and the
10000 when ordered as a pigmented model.
Specific to the 5500, everything I've been told by Epson indicates that it's
the same formulation as the 7500. Maybe they aren't telling me everything
but that's what I've heard.
Metamerism is very paper dependant as well. depending on the paper stocks
used this could be a big problem or minor.
