I'm a novice when it comes to colorsync, and I'm learning so much from
this list. I have a 19 inch LaCie monitor--the one that doesn't allow for
adjusting individual guns--and I'm somewhat confused about what I've read
about the Blue Eye calibrator. According to an article about monitors in
MacWorld, the Blue Eye did a very good job of hardware calibrating a LaCie
21 inch monitor. The Blue Eye, unlike the Spyder or any other calibrator,
will adjust the individual guns of the 19 inch LaCie monitor, as well as
those of the 21 inch monitor. Apparently, it accomplishes this by means of a
cable that permanently remains attached to both the monitor and the
computer. (I'm using a Mac.) The Blue Eye acts only as a software
calibrator of non-LaCie monitors. LaCie will allow you to purchase a Blue
Eye and return it with no questions asked as long as it's within a thirty
day period. LaCie also mentioned that they are improving their Blue Eye
software to allow the user to select a particular luminance. I am puzzled
about whether the LaCie Blue Eye, which will adjust the individual guns, or
a Spyder, which apparently takes many more color readings but will not allow
me to adjust the individual guns with my monitor, is the wiser choice. I'd
really appreciate your feedback. Thanks so much in advance.
