and my output match (using the monitor and output
profiles made w/ PM);
however, anytime I have an image with a graduated
background I get banding
and color fringing along the transitions which looks
awful (this appears
only the monitor not the output and is most apparent
in radial graduations).
If I change the monitor profile to any other generic
monitor profile in my
ColorSync folder the banding disappears. I never had
this problem until I
started profiling the monitor. I calibrate the monitor
before profiling
(6500 and 1.8 gamma) and I'm working on a beige G-3 w/
PS 6.01 and ColorSync
3.0.1.

We ran into this recently as well. It occurred with a
large (300MB) blue/red sunset image. It also showed up
in a small print made from a downsampled version of
the file. The final full-size print was fine. I
suspect that the profile is calling for more saturated
colors than without, and when the image is downsampled
for the monitor the video card is having trouble
coming up with a smoot interpretation.
