Worked ok, but slow
Several issues here... the first is that there is a patent floating around
that threatens anyone who measures both reflective and monitor colors with
the same device... discouraging the develpment of devices like this.
The next is that the lowest cost device that does both is the SpectroCam,
which currently lists at about $1400US; a bit steep for bundling with your
monitor.
And finally, if high quality devices for monitor calibration can be had,
complete with software, for a couple hundred bucks (as is now the case with
ColorVision's products), then why complicate things? If a patch reader is
desired, it can be purchased seperately. Once the devices are this low cost,
the need to double less a factor than the convenience of buying as needed,
and mixing and matching.
Oh, and I can calibrate a dozen monitors with a ColorVision Spyder in the
time it takes to calibrate one with my old Colortron... and the results are
vastly superior as well!
