The latest EPSON printer drivers only install profiles, not ColorSync.

Apple's installer is doing things correctly. But as John points out, the
mess is with 3rd parties. I don't know how many times I've hosed a more
recent version of ColorSync by installing an Epson driver which installed an
older version of ColorSync. I guess Apple has no control over how a 3rd
party decides to install their software (is there any licensing agreements
from Apple to discourage this? Could they ask that there be a two part
installer so that Epson could deal with the driver and latter deal with
ColorSync and have that installer as intelligent as Apples?). I'm sure there
are others out there doing this like Epson and I'm not trying to single them
out. I do know that it's really common to find multiple copies of ColorSync
installed on users machines, usually due to an install for an Epson printer.
At least we can thank Epson for making a product that IS ColorSync savvy.
