I have tested true spectros versus colorimeters using the same software, and
find that the theoretical advantages of the spectrophotometers don't
necessarilly translate to actual advantages in the resulting profiles.
Remember, when all is said and done, we are applying these profiles in a
rather primative manner; at best there are three phosphor values, a white
point and a gamma... at the video card level there is even less than that. So
where precision fails to offer an advantage I look for other factors, like
afforability and convenience. I'd recommend leaving the SpectroLino in its XY
table where it belongs and using the DTP92 (or in instances where you have
not yet bought a calibrator, a ColorVision Monitor Spyder) for monitors.
