Well I am still fighting on how to expose my DC chart correctly in my studio
where I do fine art captures with my BetterLight 6k and Daylight fluorescent
lights. Is it correct for me to assume that by using the DC Chart, your
exposure can be off a little bit and the profile package will adjust it? Or
is it very critical to expose the chart perfectly? But then what is perfect
digital exposure for the chart? I have talked to people at Gretag support
and Picto support and they say complete opposite things in regards to
shooting the chart in a studio setup where I have complete control.
Basically here is what I do right now.
Light the art work, check with light meter to make sure even illumination,
then I place the DC chart in front of the art, start up my Better Light
software and first look at the white / center square. I try to get that to
230 - 232 rgb. I also at the same time perform a gray balance where I can
click on four points on the chart and tell betterlight to neutralize
automatically. I then take a look at the black square, not the glossy and
try to have that like 30-35. Am I going about this all wrong? I can convert
the LAB vales from the reference file that comes with the chart into rgb to
give a an exact rgb level but I have been told that's not right either?
