I'm not sure anyone (except Harry Bowers, the guy who invented it) does. But
I suspect the software knows about the color data in the patches and uses
the Working Space as some reference. Realize that IF you make a profile
using say ColorMatch RGB using Profiler, you have to apply the profile to
data in that colorspace. You can't be using a different space. A slight but
important limitation to keep in mind. Of course with ProfilerPro, that's not
an issue (it uses a slew of Spectrophotometers to measure data).
