Best Color DE turns the 5500 on Mac. I don't know if it would have enough
power users features but certainly works well for proofing from an
inexpensive iMac as server/spooler.

I'm just starting out with Windows 2000 to explore the server sided
applications including BestColor XL. Windows 2000 is similar to Mac Os 9, I
wonder why they have to copy the innovations of the little Mac company.
Seems reasonable. Best 4.5 will come out very soon with some pretty cool new
features. Verify with your dealer about this. Best does very well with the
canned profiles so at the beginning you can just use the supplied profiles.
Screen calibration with EyeOne is easy as it should be, I'm told. Since the
screens will be calibrated and your proofs will match, the Profile Maker
part will be a less urgent transition. They respond and are very open to
tech questions and this is what advances their software so quickly.

BTW, is it better (faster) to attach the Epson 5500 to the RIP Station via

USB or to hook the printer into a 100b/t network?
100 Ethernet is preferred for reasons of access to routers, you could post
to the Best users forum and they'll respond with perhaps a more accurate
response.
