I recently had my hands on the EyeOne for a day of testing and will say that
the profile had the same viewing "characteristics" as a
Spectrolino/ProfileMaker monitor profile (not surprising). As compared to a
Optical/Spyder profile, the color accuracy and neutrality were improved but
really lacked in shadow detail (plugged shadows). We were comparing using a
reference proof (viewed in lightbox) and profile in PS6. The Optical profile
showed shadow detail that was consistent with what was apparent in the
reference proof. I'd be curious if this difference is in any way due to the
matrix-based profile of Photo/Optical vs. the LUT-based profile of the
Gretag profiles (or is PS6 not handling the LUT profile correctly?). Maybe
smarter minds than I can shed some light....
BTW, throwing the 'Lino/PM monitor profile and the EyeOne profile into
ColorThink showed identical/overlapping color gamuts. This tells me that at
least for monitor profiling that the EyeOne seems to be the equal of the
Spectrolino.
