A spectrophotometer has a spectral engine and reports spectral
information. In addition, it may (but doesn't by definition) report
colorimetric or density data. A spectrodensitometer will have a spectral
engine as well, but you may or may not have access to all of the
spectral or colorimetric information. You will however, definitely have
density functions available, with the precision and flexibility of a
spectral engine driving the calculations.
