Hi Elyse,
You might want to try Lasersoft's Silverfast 5.2 scanning software
instead of the Nikon app taht came with your scanner. Silverfast's
automated features yield nearly perfect scans with minimal effort and
it's powerful batch scanning features should speed up your workflow
considerably.
You can easily determine the type of film you're scanning by examining
the emulsion code info that all manufactures place on the edges of their
films. In the case of slides this would usually require removing the
film from it's original mount. My practice for dry slide scanning is to
place the slide in a "full aperture" VR or peg-registered Wess mount to
avoid any cropping of the original image.
