Friends
I wonder if I'm doing this right.
In the days of Photoshop 5 [pre 5.5]I was able to open an
"extreme" custom built workingspace profile [like Joe Holmes SG
workingspace] and modify it - saving out for use by other
programs. PS 5.5 still had the ability to save out but seemed to
have stricter rules about allowed workingspace specifications.
I am specifically referring to the Lyson Small Gamut workingspace
profile built by Joseph Holmes for users of the SG ink set.
Today I wanted to make a custom workingspace with a gamma of 1.87
to match that of my printer [profiled for SG inks using Colorflow
- it works well].
The ideal Lyson Small Gamut workflow seems to involve working on
images in SG workingspace [with proof colours set to the SG Epson
profile], then converting to the SG Epson profile to print.
Working in the SG workingspace has an added advantage of
desaturating the colours in the colour picker so allowing only
"SG safe" colours to be chosen, great.
Although Photoshop 6 will allow me to make a custom workingspace
I cannot save it out for use in Live Picture - I need to do that
for continuity of appearance between the 2 programs.
As I explained above PS 5.5 will not allow loading of the SG
workingspace profile at all [it obviously breaks a rule about PS
5.5 working-spaces] - so I loaded up Photoshop 5.03, which
allows me to load it as RGB workingspace .
SO- I load the SG Gamma 2.0 profile to PS 5.03, I pull down to
custom [where I am allowed to modify the profile] and reset the
gamma to 1,87. Save it out under a new name "SG workingspace
1.87" - and I'm done.
The saved "SG workingspace 1.87" profile seems to work OK in PS 6
and Live Picture and I can get a match now - but I just wanted to
ask the experts if there is perhaps more to altering a
workingspace properly than opening it in PS 5 and altering the
gamma numbers??
Am I perhaps making a problem for myself in the future if I use
this profile in PS 6 and Live Picture 2.5? [I notice PS 6 has a
new icon for it's workingspace profiles - should I alter the
creator code to "sync" [as in PS 6] from "8BIM" [as in PS 5]?
thanks for the help
any comments on other's Small gamut work-flows would be
gratefully welcomed.
