When you use CompassPro, are you setting CMYK Simulation to NONE in the
printer driver?
Whether CompassPro XT is managing the Pantones or not, the Fiery is getting
CMYK. The difference is that CompassPro XT is sending "correct" CMYK for
your output selection. When QXP is sending down unmanaged CMYK, it's to
Quark's internal definition which is based on the Pantone Solid-to-Process
guide. The process simulations provided in this guide are based on 150lpi
using C=75, M=105, Y =90 and K=45 angles. Additionally, they are printed
using Pantone process inks. Essentially, this means that the colors in this
guide are probably not going to match most normal Pantone-to-process print
jobs, but that's another matter.
If anyone has ever bothered to read the text in the front of this guide,
page 6 states that "Process color reproduction is device dependent. These
screen tint percentages should not be used for any Pantone-Licensed output
devices. When using these output devices, use the specific separation values
provided for each printer." Your Fiery software CD ROM contains a pantone.ps
file. This can be sent to the Fiery using Downloader, and it will spew about
50-odd pages. At the bottom of each swatch is the specific breakdown for
your copier model in CMYK. That will be your difference.
