How can my profile be valid, if the end points are always moving?
Which approach is better? Why?
For instance, if an IT8 ranges to 3.1 and the shots you are scanning
range from 3.0 to 3.5, then your images have a smaller, shifted or
larger range. If you don't want the discrepancy between the nomimal
range of the scanner profile and the actual range of the shots you
are scanning to cause problems e.g. by clipping, then your scanner
software should be able to do dynamic white point adjustments while
still making use of the scanner profile.
End point matching is easy to understand on reflective prints where
absolute, illuminant relative colorimetry applies. It is harder to
understand in scanner and monitor contexts.
