Jeff--
I've had a Microtek ScanMaker 8700 ($1000 with the "design" software
bundle) for a couple of months. It works well on my MacOS systems,
can scan a wide variety of media (reflective up to 8-1/2 x 14,
transmissive up to 8 x 10) and is a good all-around performer. You
may ask me off-list about specific issues if you like.
You might also go to www.leben.com and sign up for the Epson Inkjet
and Scan lists. Both are active and informative.

Also, I've been given approval to purchase a scanner and told not to spend
over $2000...I would really appreciate any recommendations. Scan bed size
larger than 81/2 x 14 would be a big plus. We need to scan both reflective
and transparent originals.
